How do I create products in Commerce?
In Commerce › Products you press New product and give it a name and a price. You can then sell it at the point of sale, quote it and purchase it.
Where it lives
Commerce › Catalog › Products
Step by step
- Open Commerce and, under Catalog, go to Products.
- Press New product.
- Type the name. It is the only required field.
- Fill in the cost and the sale price. As you type, the form shows you the margin and warns you if you are selling below cost.
- Track inventory comes switched on: type the Current stock and the Minimum stock; switch it off if you do not want to keep count.
- Press Save.
Worth knowing
- The SKU is optional, but if you use it, it cannot repeat: two products with the same SKU are refused.
- With Track inventory off the product still sells; Sice simply does not keep count of the units.
- To correct the stock, edit the product and change Current stock (with the Inventory module you also get Stock movement).
- For it to show on your site or in your Meta catalog, switch on Show in shop in the Options step.
- Before creating your first product your workspace needs a currency set; if it is missing, the form tells you and will not let you save.
- When you delete a product, sales that already included it keep their copy: nothing you already sold goes out of balance.
